New Comic Archive Pages – Black Hammer Universe
I started reading comics pretty late in life. It wasn’t that hard to figure out where to start with some series (issue or volume 1). Other series though I would see that volume 1 would have issues 1-3 & 5-6. Then volume 2 would be 7-11, and issue 4 would only appear in like volume 8. Being an annoying completionist who likes to read or watch things in order, this annoyed me as it was hard to track down exactly where issues appeared.
There are several sites and Wikipedia articles dedicated to sorting this out in text, but I always imagined something a bit more visual. Also, as I’ve found several lists still leave out certain entries for some reason.
So, I decided to make a three columned page separated by issues, volumes, and omnibuses. These are broad categories with omnibus including library editions, volumes includes tpb’s and HC’s, etc. But essentially they are separated into single issue column, few issues collected column, and then column of all the larger collections of issues or volumes.
If you click on any issue you can see what volumes and omnibuses it is included in, and if you select any volume or omnibuses you can see what issues are included.
This may help no one but myself, but I find it much easier to figure out where all of the issues I want to read are located within larger collections with something like more visual.
The first comic I set out to do this with is the Black Hammer Universe. I started with Black Hammer, and all the offshoots, because it was the one where I first ran into a sequential issue not appearing in a volume. Issue 12 is not included in volume 2 of the Black Hammer series, and instead only appears in the omnibus. Also it seemed like a larger, but manageable, series to start with to see if I could do it all how I pictured it in my mind.
The pages still might need some tweaking, but for the most part i think i got it working how I originally pictured it in my mind.
The series I’m working on next is proving to be much more annoying (Hellboy Universe), but after that is complete I should be able to get more of these out at a quicker pace.
